Cigar Lighting Methods
When it comes to cigars, you may be partial to a Cuban cigar, a new world cigar or even a cigarillo. But no matter your preference, if a cigar is not lit properly, then its flavour can be ruined. So, in this blog post, we at Taylors Tobacconists are going to run you through the different ways that a cigar can be lit.
Matches
Probably one of the most popular ways to light a cigar, matches are not only extremely portable, they are also very cheap. But rather than using traditional small matches, when lighting a cigar it is important that a longer version is used. Doing so will not only make the cigar easier to light, it also reduces the chance of the user burning themselves.
The only real downside to using matches is that they can be known to affect the taste of the cigar slightly. So, if you are smoking a premium cigar such as the Cuban variety, it is advisable to avoid matches.
Lighters
Lighters are another convenient way to ignite a cigar but much like with matches, they can also affect the taste. One way to lessen the impact of this is to wait a couple of minutes after triggering the lighter. This will reduce the amount of butane that enters your cigar, thus minimising the effect.
Cedar Sticks
Cedar sticks are a great way to light a cigar as unlike with a match or lighter, they do not spoil the taste. They are not as readily available as matches or lighters but most cigar shops/tobacconists should stock them. However, it should be noted that in order to light a cedar stick, you will need a match/lighter, thus increasing the overall cost.
