CAMACHO CIGARS

Camacho Cigars History

Camacho cigars were founded in 1961 by Simon Camacho and after many years of relative success, were sold to the Eiroa family in 1995. Following this, the company received worldwide recognition at the RTDA show in 2000, establishing themselves as one of the top Cuban cigar brands.

The secret to Camacho’s smooth taste and aroma is down to the variety of tobacco seeds that are used. The tobacco plants that were previously used were small in stature and perhaps only 170cm tall, meaning that you only got between 20 to 30 percent wrapper from it.

This is why since 1987, the tobacco seed variety has been gradually replaced in Cuba. From new hybrid seeds like Corojo you can get double the amount of yield, whilst still producing an incomparable taste.

Incidentally, the Corojo seed was developed by a certain Diego Rodriguez on his farm Santa Ines del Corona near San Luis in the province of Pinar del Rio, for a long time his wrappers were considered the best in the world.

Since 2001, Camacho has broken one sales record after another and until the sale of the brand again in 2008, Camacho experienced an 82 month long success streak.
