DIPLOMATICOS CUBAN CIGARS

Diplomaticos Cuban Cigars History

Brought to market in 1966, Diplomaticos was the first brand of Cuban cigars to be released in post-revolutionary Cuba, both to domestic and international customers. The Cohiba was actually the very first cigar brand created post-revolution, but was solely used for private consumption by Castro and as diplomatic gifts.

The original concept behind Diplomaticos was to offer a “value” Montecristo. Like the Montecristo line, Diplomaticos offered five handmade numbered sizes.

In 1976, ten years after the introduction of Diplomaticos, the No.6 and No.7 were introduced to the line, again emulating Montecristo’s Especial No.1 and Especial No.2. However, these were phased out by the mid-1980s.

The similarities don’t end there due to the fact that Montecristo and Diplomatico are made using a similar blend of tobaccos. However, as mentioned above, Diplomatico Cuban cigars are offered at a more affordable price and provide a slightly milder smoke.
