Bolivar Cuban Cigars History
Founded by Jose’ F. Rocha in 1902, the Bolivar Cuban cigar has a reputation among cigar aficionados of being one of the biggest, boldest and most full bodied cigars.
The cigar was named after Simon Bolivar, a formidable political and military leader of the nineteenth century who helped establish independence for many South American countries, ending much of the colonial rule established by the Spanish monarchy.
So when and how did the major export brand, Bolivar, gain worldwide popularity? After Rocha’s death in 1954, the company along with its naming rights were sold off. The new owner, Cifuentes y Cia, relocated production to the world renowned Partagas Factory in Havana.
Today, the factory is named the Francisco Perez German Factory and it has subsequently been moved to a new location.
